Teeing off Around Thompson Lake

Here in Poland, we’re fortunate enough to be surrounded by a number of gorgeous golf courses beloved by residents and visitors alike. With spring in full swing, now’s the perfect time to dust off the clubs and hit the links in Maine. Today, we’ll highlight a few of our favorite courses in the area.

Fairlawn Golf & Country Club

This 18-hole championship course opened in 1963 and has twice been host to the Maine Open Championship; first in 1973 and then again in 1977. This public course is immaculately maintained and reasonably priced. Challenging enough for experienced golfers, but also accessible to novice players, Fairlawn should not be missed on your next Maine golf tour.

Martindale Country Club

Located in nearby Auburn, Martindale County Club offers golfers the chance to take in stunning views of Mt. Washington as they play through the course’s front nine. Secluded in the dense woods of Maine, Martindale features a peaceful atmosphere that visitors to the course find irresistible. The course also has four different sets of tees to accommodate players of all skill levels. Open since 1921, Martindale is one of the oldest, most well-liked courses in the region.

Summit Golf Course

Another historic course in Poland, Maine Summit Golf Course opened in 1915 and has been providing locals with a first-class golf experience ever since. This public course features affordable fees and 18 holes of challenging, enjoyable play.

Poland Spring Golf Course

Poland Spring boasts an impressive lineup of past players, including Babe Ruth, William Taft, Walter Hagen, and Bobby Jones. It also bears the title of the oldest resort golf course in America. Play a round at Poland Spring and take a step back in time to the game’s golden era. With long, sloping fairways and challenging, varied greens, Poland Spring is an absolute staple of Maine’s vibrant golf culture.
