Skiing in Maine

Selecting a home in the heart of winter country has its benefits. If you are a lover of the outdoors, there is nothing quite as beautiful as a snow-covered piece of land. When choosing a home near Thompson Lake, Tripp Lake or the Range Ponds, you will have the added luxury of being near several local ski resorts that are known for both cross-country and alpine skiing.

There are many opportunities for cross-country skiing near Thompson Lake. Enjoy Carter’s X-C Ski Center just around the corner in Oxford, Maine. With excellent snowfall and perfect conditions, you will savor the 30 kilometers of beautifully groomed landscape along Carter’s trails. You can ski one of the best collections of beginner and intermediate trails in the area with a wide selection of rental gear available to make your experience smooth and enjoyable. Open every day during the winter season, Carter’s X-C Ski Center provides a diverse range of trails that caters to those who prefer no elevation and those who want some hills. Check out their trail map to find the best trail for you!

If you love downhill skiing, there are plenty of ski resorts nearby to fulfill your need for speed, too. Lost Valley in Auburn, Maine, offers 15 trails and a terrain park for an interesting fun-filled day of skiing for all levels. Open since 1961, this family-friendly ski resort hosts mostly easy and intermediate trails for alpine skiers, as well as 15 km of cross-country skiing trails. In Bridgton, Maine you will find Shawnee Peak! With a vertical drop of 1,300 feet, you are sure to have a thrilling adventure. Check the peak’s mountain report regularly to find out the latest conditions, and plan your trip around which of their 40 trails, seven glades and three terrain parks are open.

If you are looking for good family fun, check out Mount Abram in Greenwood, Maine. A perfect destination for children to take beginner’s lessons or spend the day tubing, Mount Abram even offers a daycare service to allow the adults to have a full day on the slopes. Find a wide selection of trails on the map and check out the options from advanced slopes to beginner skiing.
